The Ugly Truth Behind Bad Faith Arguments
They lead down the path of evil
I came across yet another piece on Prince Harry and his book Spare a couple of days ago that had, quite possibly, the worst bad-faith argument I’ve ever seen on this platform. Considering I’ve been here since 2015 and have seen all manner of insanity in that time, that’s saying something.
Alongside visceral and thinly veiled racism, another major part of the anger we’ve seen aimed at Harry is born out of our dominance-based culture of masculinity. It is hatred of a man who unabashedly loves and collaborates with his female partner. Unable to fathom equity, men in dominance-based masculine culture are convinced he’s “her puppet.”
I was, and still am, utterly stunned at such a ridiculous take. Despite there being half a dozen very legitimate reasons I could rattle off for disliking Harry, this author boils it all down to guys hating Harry because he “unabashedly loves and collaborates with his female partner” and because they’re “unable to fathom equity.”
Seriously?
I’ve read some of this author’s work before too. He’s clearly an intelligent guy. Unfortunately, he falls into the trap that many here seem to fall into, where they cast aspersions on others not because there’s evidence for it, but because they want so badly…
