Remember not so long ago, when Medium brought in the policy that to join the Partner Program and earn money, you had to have 100 followers?

Man, did people lose their shit.

It was all the contingent of new writers could talk about at the time. How unfair it was, how it created an impossible chicken and egg scenario. How they shouldn’t have to clear a hurdle to make money. Never mind the fact that you aren’t making a dollar even with a following of 100 on Medium.

At this point, you’re probably wondering what the hell this has to do with starting a YouTube channel…

The YouTube Monetisation Requirements Make Medium’s Seem Generous

I never started YouTube to become a big-time creator, making heaps of money from monetising my videos. I did it because I was looking to create different stuff for a different audience. Nonetheless, I was still interested in what that looked like and how I could bolster my earnings at least a little bit.
